This really resonated with me. I also find myself getting laser focused on a single hobby, but I’m always happiest (and at my most creative) when I’m bouncing around between the many, many activities that I love. Thank you for reminding me of that!

Welcome. I should get inspired by your writing and do some more backpacking.

Excellent piece Carl and beautiful photos. I love that Ring-necked Duck. Tending to go all in is something I also have found myself to do. It can be good for the thing being gone all in on, but leads to imbalance as you note.

Big years are very taxing--time-wise, mentally, etc. I don't regret doing one, but I remember getting up early to bird one day in April and thinking, is this even fun?

It sounds like this year was a good learning experience, Carl. That image of the Vermillion Flycatcher is really nice - I've never seen one before as they're not in my area, but that vibrant red colour is amazing. Thanks for sharing.

They’re not supposed to be in mine either, but I was blessed with two this year, a couple hundred miles north. You should come see em sometime.
